Unless you know Ester this won’t make much sense. But, I’ve finally picked an ester for the lady. (whom I am very excited to draw)

Just two simple little boredom sketches. Embarrassing errors a-plenty, but the one redeeming quality here would be the fact that both were done in green – a great color.

Sometimes I come across something that strikes me as pleasantly amusing. Sometimes, I stumble across the comment again and it’s still funny. My blog was made for convenience, and what’s more convenient than an archive of instances that make me wish i was capable of more wit somewhat funny blurbs ? (Please don’t answer that.)
Like my Tutorials post, I’m just going to update the old post, as opposed to publishing new ones.

On with the show then :

Some artists and their rather pretty light fixtures April 25, 2008

While doing research for a ceramic project I hoped to try, I came across some interesting contemporary artists and their work. Obviously the artists make other works beside just lamps, so if anyone is interested in their other artist ventures, you should check out their sites.

Most of these projects while great looking, appear really simple in construction.

So without further Ado, First up :

Amy Cooper

She does ceramic lamps with an interesting organic sea life theme

more can be seen here

next:

Meryl Till

pretty much the same idea but less organic and apparently all in cylinders.

more can be seen here

Another:

Colin Chetwood

Flower lamps made of tissue paper and wire

more ca be seen here

Second last:

Hanna Nunn

Paper cut parchment lamps with plant themes

more can be seen here

and lastly:

Tord Boontje (I’m happy to have found this artist’s work again finally)

made the very pretty icarus lamp
Like the artist above, uses paper in his lamps with flower themes

more here:
not the artist’s personal site, but does display some of his popular work as well some other great lights

Spiked watermelon recipes April 24, 2008

Since summer is on its way… well I’m sure she will get here soon enough… The winter storm watch warning doesn’t offer me much hope, but it was truly spring just a few days ago.

Regardless, I’ve found what appear to be some good recipes and instructions to spike watermelons. The idea seems to suited for summer I just had to include links to the respected sites:

as related to the picture above

and

just a few good ideas

I didn’t do any extensive research and a google search would give probably good or even better results. But since this blog is for convenience’s sake, this post should remind me of a fun summer treat. I can’t wait till the heat rolls in and I can do this at a party.

horned melons have perfect summer colors April 24, 2008

I really wanted to use the word perusing in this post, but I checked it in the dictionary first and alas, the word would have been misused in the context I had intended.

In any case, today I was shopping at our local supermarket minding my own business when suddenly I saw it. The “it” in question, was a spiky orange looking fruit of some sort. Turns out Its called a Horned melon, or any other variation of names. A kindly employee offered to cut it open for me to taste and so I agreed.

It was pretty fun to eat actually. Its filled wit these lime green jelly jewels which you have to suck out of the fruit. Wasn’t incredibly flavorful, but since they are new to the store (from Australia) the employee didn’t know how to tell when they were ripe. The fruit itself wasn’t very bitter like I was told, and I really enjoyed the taste.

Here are some pictures:

New sketches April 21, 2008

I’ve been posting mostly old stuff lately so here is some new-ish sketches I’m working on. I have a whole bunch more sitting around on my hardrive and sketchbook still. The first and last images are from the Ivory Crow Grenade, but more on that at a later date.

The person above is pretty attractive, but I fear it is far too feminine… I’ll have to change that.

Not too sure who the person above is, she started out as just a tablet warm up exercise. I think the face is actually pretty cute and might have some potential for a finished picture one of these days.

This one is going to be fantastic! I can just feel it! Whats sort of sad is that I had the sketch almost done, when I accidentally deleted it. I was a little upset, but I decided to stay up till 4 am and redo the thing. I still miss the original though. In any case, Here’s to getting the time to complete this baby, she’s gonna be a winner!

One of these days I need to upload a manly picture…

Another old picture – old tiger April 21, 2008

Way back when I only had pencil crayons and paper as art supplies I tried to draw a tiger. It was all going great until I realized the sketchbook paper was too small to finish drawing his head. T_T Alas, what could I do. Its a real shame though, since I really liked where this picture was going. There’s not much I can do with it at this point, so I might as well share it.
